After reading the fabulous seven-book series The Clifton Chronicles, I became a fan of Jeffrey Archer. William Warwick is a star in the London Metropolitan Police Force in this series. An Eye for an Eye is the seventh book featuring Warwick, his family, his colleagues, and his adversaries.
While Lord Hartley is on his deathbed, his son Simon Hartley becomes entangled in a botched Saudi Arms deal, leading to his imprisonment for a murder he witnessed. Warwick, now Chief Superintendent of Scotland Yard, is tasked with helping Simon. William's wife Beth is the director of the Fitzmolean Art Gallery Museum. Warwick's primary nemesis is Miles Faulkner, a wealthy art collector and thief. Faulkner is once again being released from prison after his latest sentence and he seeks revenge. He manages to work his way into the case against Hartley while aiming to destroy the Warwicks and making some millions in the process. One of the plots involves a hand-written copy of the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson, which was loaned to one of Hartley's ancestors, was particularly intriguing.
If you haven't started reading this series yet, it's time to jump on board. There are few masterful storytellers like Archer. Book eight will be the final book in the action-packed series, and I'll be sad when it ends.
