In Moral Compass, the prolific Danielle Steel tackles the tough subject of rape, alcohol abuse and a cover-up by six seniors in an elite prep school which recently went co-ed. For most of us, there’s right and there’s wrong. Unfortunately for some, like several of the wealthy parents of the six boys, there’s a belief that money can help get you out of any jam. So much for following a moral compass.
When planning to read this book, I thought there would be more of a challenge to the readers to determine where our own moral compass would land on the issues addressed but in my opinion there was no gray area here. Nevertheless, Steel’s latest is an interesting and timely story. A good, quick read. Good to see Ms. Steel branch out a bit from her normal story lines. Trigger warning - there is a rape scene that is upsetting. And the reaction of the young woman to not identify the rapist is all too real and extremely sad. Published on January 7, 2020.
