How to Read a Book - a story of compassion, forgiveness and the power of books.

Violet Powell, incarcerated in Maine for causing the death of kindergarten teacher Lorraine Daigle while under the influence, is serving a 28-month sentence. While in prison, she finds solace in a book club led by Harriet, a retired teacher and widow who is seeking purpose in her life. Violet is wracked with guilt and is unable to forgive herself. But neither can her family. When Violet is released, she moves to Portland and is completely on her own. In a local bookstore, she runs into Harriet, who is happy to see her. Violet also sees Frank Daigle, Lorraine's widower, who is the store's handyman. The lives of these three people, each with their own struggles, become beautifully intertwined.

In How to Read a Book, author Monica Wood has created a memorable story of hope and second chances. It is a story of compassion, forgiveness and the power of books. One look at its book cover made me want to read it. It's emotional and often witty. Enjoy the scenes with some very special parrots.

Don't miss this tender tale.
