Local Woman Missing - a dark whodunit of two missing women and a child.

In a small Chicago suburban community, unhappily married and new mother Shelby Tebow goes out for a run and disappears. And then it happens again. Meredith Dickey and her young daughter Delilah disappear. Her husband Josh is devastated. The story makes national news and then the case goes cold. Eleven years later, a teenage girl escapes her capturers, seeks help from a woman on the street and when she tells her that her name is Delilah Dickey, the woman gasps.

Mary Kubica’s latest thriller is a tense one. There are so many questions to be answered and through the voices of several characters, the pieces fall into place. The book volleys from the present to the past where Meredith tells her story. Neighbor and friend Kate, who lives with her partner Bea, takes us back to the day Meredith and Delilah went missing. In the present, Delilah details her plot to escape and perhaps the most touching perspective comes from her younger brother Leo who, now a teenager, has been denied the proper attention required for his trauma.

Local Woman Missing is a dark book with some creative twists that will keep you guessing. Unrealistic? Sure. Entertaining? Yes.
