Long Shadows, the seventh book in David Baldacci’s Memory Man series, starts with a traumatic loss for FBI consultant Amos Decker. He has a new partner, Special Agent Frederica White, and the pair are sent to Florida to investigate the murders of federal judge Julia Cummins and her bodyguard Alan Draymont. While the bodyguard was found shot, the judge was brutally stabbed, raising the possibility of two separate killers and motives. If you're new to the series, Decker is a former football player whose near-death experience altered his brain giving him perfect recall. He also has synesthesia - he sees specific colors when danger is near. But as he ages, his condition appears to be changing.
Author David Baldacci has created yet another complex and engaging story for this interesting character. Agent White, a Black single mother, is an excellent new addition. As the solving of the crime starts to come together for Decker and White, the story goes in some unexpected directions. I enjoyed this installment even more than the last one. You can jump into the series at any point as each of the books brings you up to speed. But if you're looking for a new series, Memory Man is a good one to choose and worth reading from the beginning. Rated 4.25 out of 5 stars. Mystery / Thriller. Publication Date: October 11, 2022.
