Bree is staying at a beautiful Airbnb with her workaholic boyfriend Ty on a romantic New York City area getaway. As a Black woman with an unfortunate episode in her past, she feels she's finally on the road to happiness. She learns from the neighbors that an attractive area woman who is a popular dog walker has gone missing. Flyers of Janelle, the pretty, blond, white woman, get plastered all over and the story goes viral led by Tic Tok influencer Billie. As Ty works, Bree gets absorbed in the story. On the final day of their getaway, Bree wakes up and finds a badly bruised and bloody, murdered woman in the entryway of the four-story house, who fits the description of Janelle. And Ty is nowhere to be found. A former friend of Bree's shows up to help her through the police investigation and the media onslaught. The two women are determined to get to the bottom of what happened while social media goes wild pleading for #Justice4Janelle.
In Missing White Woman, author Kellye Garrett has elevated the slow-burn murder mystery by integrating the impact of race, true-crime culture, social media and online influencers. The result is a story that is suspenseful and thoughtful. You will be moved by Bree's predicament.
