Lillie Silva is experiencing great sadness as she tries to get used to the fact that her son and only child Dylan will soon be off to college. A native of Cape Cod, she is a highly-respected certified nurse-midwife and loves her job. She’s expecting to adjust to an empty nest with husband Brad Fairchild. But just before Dylan’s high school graduation, Brad drops a bombshell – he’s leaving Lillie for a much younger woman. He needs to find his joy. Melissa, the new woman in his life, is a gorgeous, wealthy widow who has reinvented herself from very humble beginnings. Having just moved to town, she is need of a new husband to adore her and Brad was ripe for the picking. Melissa lures Brad in with such skill that he is convinced that his marriage has been broken for years. Lillie knows better. She has no choice but to move on. But a little revenge might help ease the pain.
Out of the Clear Blue Sky will wonderfully transport you into the lives of Lillie, her complicated family, loyal friends and the woman who broke up her marriage. These are multi-dimensional characters that after close to 500 pages, you’ll feel you know well. Author Kristan Higgins writes in such an easy, comfortable manner that I blew through the book rooting for Lillie all the way. The settings throughout Cape Cod were described so well. And while this is not a comedy, there are parts that are hilarious. This is a refreshing book that will tug at your heart and then make you smile. I didn’t want it to end.
