The Fury - an entertaining, atmospheric mystery thriller set in Greece.

Meet Elliot Chase, the narrator of this tale of love, revenge and murder. Elliot, a writer with a sad backstory, is great friends with Lana Farrar. Lana was a world-famous actress but left her life in California to retire and live in London. Lana's first husband, now deceased, bought her Aura, an island in Greece where she invites Elliot and Kate, her actress friend, to join her and her second husband Jason and son Leo for a getaway vacation. Lana's assistant and the island caretaker bring the group to seven. The island becomes even more remote when wild winds called The Menos (The Fury) batters Aura. As Elliot describes, the fun comes to a halt when three shots are heard, and a bloody body is found. Who is left lying on the grounds surrounded by a circle of ancient marble columns? And who did this? We are told to pull up a chair and listen as this Greek Tragedy unfolds.

The Fury is the third of the consistently entertaining books by Alex Michaelides. (The author finds creative ways to weave his books together. Hold off reading this one if you plan to read his first book, The Silent Patient. The story is presented as a five-act play with seven complex characters. Like Elliot, the unreliable narrator, I enjoyed being fully and utterly manipulated by Michaelides. He takes you down one path and then you realize, like some of the characters, that you have been deceived. It's a fun ride.
