Frank Szatowski lives a modest life in Pennsylvania's Poconos and is a UPS driver with a 26-year perfect driving record. The proud Gulf War veteran and widower always made sure that his daughter Maggie was well taken care of. Frank is overjoyed to hear from his estranged daughter that she is getting married and wants him to attend her upcoming marriage to Aidan Gardner, the son of the CEO of the tech company she works for. The wedding is set to take place at the expansive and secluded Gardner "camp" in New Hampshire. As Frank heads to the multi-day event with his sister Tammy and her foster child Abigail he starts getting the feeling that things are just not right. Especially when he is required to sign a 56-page nondisclosure privacy agreement before being allowed to enter the billionaire's property. Despite his fear of jeopardizing his rekindled relationship with his daughter, Frank has to find a way to express his concerns about the marriage, especially when some of the locals suspect Aidan of being involved in the disappearance of a young woman.
If you enjoyed author Jason Rekulak's 2022 hit Hidden Pictures, The Last One at the Wedding surely made your reading list. It's very good. But it's very different from the last book, a horror thriller. This latest is a dark domestic thriller and what they share is good storytelling. This tense novel is filled with many unlikeable characters and even the likable ones make lots of bad decisions. I was highly entertained, especially in the second half when secrets began to unravel.
Rated 4.25 out of 5 stars.
Domestic Thriller.
Publication Date: October 8, 2024.
