Francesa Meadows is preparing for the grand opening of The Manor, her new luxury resort in the English village of Tome, situated on the land where she grew up. Designed by her architect husband Owen, the resort promises the ultimate wellness experience combining top-notch amenities in an authentic, rustic setting. Francesca has masterfully generated great publicity for herself as a lifestyle expert. And while the press loves her, the locals do not as the resort threatens the area's woodlands as well as the surrounding properties. Local folklore about a group known as The Birds protecting the area from evil forces could complicate Francesa's plans. Among the guests is Bella Springfield, who holds a dark secret from Francesca's past that has haunted her for the past fifteen years. Through flashbacks in Bella's 2009 journal, the reason behind her presence at the opening is revealed. Flash-forwards to the day after the celebration show that the event took an unexpected turn, leading to the discovery of a dead body.
Lucy Foley's mystery thriller, The Midnight Feast, is a complex story with multiple narrators and timelines. The book features a diverse group of characters, each with their own hidden secrets and intriguing backstories. Foley has created an effective atmosphere which blends luxury, rustic charm and eeriness. As the puzzle pieces fall into place, the resolution is gratifying.
There are plans for a TV series adaptation of this captivating novel.
