Dr. Eliza Edwards is a true trailblazer. A Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania graduate, Eliza has dedicated her life to helping others, especially women. It's 1936 and after years of running a successful practice, the troubled economy has caused her to forge a new path. With her two sons grown, she can go to places where she is most needed including Jellico, Tennessee, in the poverty-stricken Appalachian region. Each place she goes, she endears herself to her patients and the people around her, building valuable relationships. She tackles racism and poverty while fighting ongoing prejudice as a female medical doctor, especially being a mature-aged woman.
The Path Beneath Her Feet is a sequel to author Janis Robertson Daly's novel The Unlocked Path (2022). While you can read her latest as a standalone, it is best to start with her first book to fully enjoy this wonderful character's journey, which takes us from 1897 to 1947. Both are beautifully written books with well-researched history. I highly recommend them.
Many thanks to the author and Black Rose Writing for the opportunity to read this book in advance.
