Dana Barry is a host on the Shopping Channel. She yearns to be an actress but she’s good at her job and she’s finally earning real money. When a new CEO is brought in to help grow sales, Dana tries to pitch some ideas to him at the company rooftop party. They share a drink but he turns out to be a lascivious creep. Dana escapes from his advances but ends up passing out. When she wakes up, she learns that the CEO is dead. He was pushed off the roof. There are many people who could have committed the crime – including Dana. Her boyfriend Ari is a homicide detective and is brought in to investigate. Ari isn’t able to share any information with her so Dana does her own sleuthing to try and clear her name unless she discovers she is the murderer.
The mysteries I normally read are very dark so it was a nice change of pace to read The Rooftop Party. Although the book deals with some serious topics like murder, Dana and Ari’s struggling relationship and family issues, it is written in a light style filled with lots of wit and humor. Author Ellen Meister’s book Love Sold Separately (which I haven't read) introduced Dana. I suspect a third book with this delightful character will be forthcoming and I’ll be sure to read it.

Hi Michele. After reading your review, I decided to read the first Dana Barry book, Love Sold Separately, before I read this one. It's very amusing and an enjoyable read. Thought you might like a recommendation back. Stay well.
