This riveting book begins right before the new school year at Gorman University in Pennsylvania. English professor Dr. Scarlett Clark is not your average educator. She has observed years of men behaving very badly against women and getting away with it. She’s about to seek justice for a young woman who was raped by star athlete Tyler Elkin. She poisons him and makes it look like a suicide. Now, off to class. The school is in shock and decides to dig deeper into its unfortunate history of on-campus deaths, mostly suicides. Mostly the work of Scarlett. A task force is set up and Scarlett volunteers to help. She’s also planning her next murder, another man she believes deserves to die.
We meet freshman Carly Schiller. She’s socially awkward and a loner. Her sophomore roommate Allison is a vivacious young woman and takes her under her wing, exposing Carly to a new world outside her studies. When Allison is sexually assaulted at a party, Carly seeks justice.
As in most good thrillers, it’s best not to reveal much more other than this book is dark, dark, dark. Author Layne Fargo’s writing style is fast-moving so you’ll breeze through it and will learn why Scarlett has become the killer/vigilante she is. Will you root for her? Wait and see.
