In Fairhill, Vermont, a seemingly safe, idyllic community is shaken when one of their own is discovered murdered, soon revealing that Fairhill is anything but idyllic. The victim is Diana Brewer, a beautiful and popular high school senior, whose body is found in a field by farmer Roy Ressler. Who could possibly want to harm Diana? As the police investigate the crime, potential suspects emerge including Diana's clingy boyfriend Cameron Farrel. Meanwhile, Diana, while no longer alive, is looking down and commenting on the events. At first, she can't recall what led to her death, but the pieces start coming together. Diana's best friends Riley and Evan try to be a comfort to Diana's grieving mother and get involved in the investigation. As the case gets closer to being solved, it is clear that Fairhill will never be the same.
Having read all of Shari Lapena's mystery thrillers, I was excited to read her latest release. Lapena's fast-paced novel What Have You Done? is a gripping tale filled with suspense. With a large and well-developed cast of characters, Lapena delves into the reactions of both parents and a fiancé of two of the suspects as they face the possibility that their loved one could be a monster. Additionally, Lapena explores how a young woman's complaints over the actions of a male authority figure were largely disregarded. This is quite an emotional whodunit.
