Whitney is an over-protective, divorced mother. Her 16-year-old daughter Amelia wants more independence. She drives her daughter to a sleepover at her new friend Lauren’s house and watches her walk into the house before returning home. She waits for her daughter to call her to pick her up but the call never comes. So she drives to the house and an elderly couple answers the door and they tell her she must have the wrong house. No one named Lauren lives there. And there’s no trace of Amelia. This engaging thriller takes us through Whitney’s nightmare of trying to find her daughter. During the search, lies are uncovered as we learn about the days leading up to Amelia’s disappearance. And we learn that Whitney is also hiding her own secrets.
I enjoyed this dark, twisty, fast-paced book as author Amber Garza did a fine job revealing more and more about the central characters creating a guessing game as to what was truly going on.
